A full-height scaffold around Reading’s old council offices, giving safe access for demolition works on a tall, concrete-panelled block.
The project
Reading’s old council offices were a tall block clad in concrete panels, with two long elevations meeting at an angle. Before the building could come down, the demolition teams needed safe access to every floor of the outside of the building, with the site secured behind hoardings and the public kept well away from the work.
We scaffolded the building from the ground to above the roof, following both elevations round the angle between them, with a working lift at every floor. At the top, the scaffold rises past the roof with guardrails running the whole way round, protecting the roof edge for the demolition crews. At ground level the site is enclosed by hoardings carrying the site safety signs, keeping the public out of the working area.
